The Fire Marshal's Office of Cochran Fire & Emergency Services is involved in the process of fire prevention and code enforcement by conducting inspections annually on existing businesses. New businesses must be inspected before a business license is issued.
Fire Prevention is probably the most effective means for reducing loss of life and property due to fire. Our Fire Inspector works closely with contractors, building owners, and managers to ensure compliance with all fire codes and standards.
Title 25, Chapter 2, of the Official Code of Georgia (O.C.G.A.) allows the Safety Fire Commissioner of Georgia to adopt rules and regulations to promote fire safety. The primary task of the Fire Marshal's Office (FMO) is enforcing these "Rules and Regulations for the State Minimum Fire Safety Standards" as adopted by the State Fire Commissioner.
The City of Cochran Fire Marshal's Offices utilizes adopted codes and ordinances to ensure:
- Recognized and potential fire and life safety hazards are identified and mitigated.
- Reliable egress for occupants from structures.
- Fire protection and life safety systems are installed and maintained to operate in an effective manner.
- Buildings are accessible and "user-friendly" to help responding fire crews quickly mitigate any fire or life safety emergency.
