Part-time Laborer – Public Works Department

The City of Cochran is seeking a skilled laborer to join our Public Works team. The skilled laborer will operate a Zero-Turn or other mower in City rights-of-way as well as the Cedar Hill Cemetery. This position also involves operating vehicles, tractors, chain saws, cutters, weed eaters, and pruning saws. A strong work ethic, and attention to detail and safety are essential.

Position is part-time averaging 28 hours per week. Position is supervised by the Public Works Department Street Supervisor.

Full Time Fire Fighter - Fire Department

The City of Cochran is accepting applications for a Full time Fire Fighter for the Fire Department. Work involves combating, extinguishing and preventing fires; providing emergency medical care to the sick and injured; and maintaining and operating equipment and apparatus. Qualifications include: High School Diploma or equivalent; must complete and maintain a GA Firefighter I Certification within one year of employment; must meet minimum physical fitness requirements as set forth by City of Cochran Fire Department; must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license Class F and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR); pass employment physical and drug screen; acceptable criminal history; certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); equivalent combination of education and experience.

Records Clerk - Police Department

Job Summary: This position provides administrative support to all divisions and is responsible for maintaining files, manuals, and databases, distributing mail, preparing correspondence and reports, answering phone calls, and performing other administrative tasks as requested. Work includes a wide variety of clerical and general office duties in the Police and Fire Departments. Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent; some college course work preferred; two (2) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The applicant must be able to pass a criminal and driver history background review and a drug screen. Salary $12.00 per hour This is a part-time position with no benefits (avg. 25 hours per week).

Full-time Mechanic – Public Works Department

The City of Cochran is seeking a full time Mechanic to join our Public Works team. This position performs semi-skilled, skilled, and administrative work in maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the Public Works Department and all City vehicles and equipment. This position may also be required to assist the Water, Street, and Sewer departments when needed. This position works under the close supervision of the Street Maintenance Supervisor. This position must be CDL licensed certified or have the ability to obtain one.

This mechanic position is a 40 hour a week position. This position will be required to work in rotation responding to after hours emergencies and calls for the Public Works Department.

Code Enforcement Officer - Public Works Department (Full-Time) 

The City of Cochran is seeking a code enforcement officer to join our Public Works team. The City of Cochran is seeking a code enforcement officer to join our Public Works team. This position is responsible for performing a variety of technical duties in support of the City’s local code enforcement program; monitors and enforces a variety of applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, land use, nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, blight, graffiti, water waste, and other matters of public concern; and serves as a resource and provides information on City regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other City departments and divisions.

 

This position is full-time 40 hours a week. This position is required to obtain a Level 1 certification through the Georgia Association of Code Enforcement (GACE). This position is supervised by the Public Works Director and City Manager.

Maintenance Technician - Public Works Department (Full-Time)

The City of Cochran is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to join our Public Works team. The maintenance technician will operate a Zero-Turn or other mower in City rights-of-way. This position also involves operating equipment, vehicles, tractors, chain saws, cutters and pruning saws. This position will also assist in maintaining the storm and sewer system as needed. A strong work ethic, and attention to detail and safety are essential and assisting with the maintenance.

 

This position is full-time 40 hours a week, working on call weeks on a rotation schedule. This position is supervised by the Public Works Department Street Supervisor.

Certified Police Officer – Patrol Division (Part-Time)

Under general supervision the applicant is expected to perform field duties relating to response to emergencies, general and directed patrol, investigation of crimes and other incidents, traffic enforcement and control, assisting in crime prevention activities, and other law enforcement services and duties as required. A significant degree of initiative, independent judgment, and discretion is required of incumbents to develop, maintain, and successfully perform tasks in a community oriented, problem solving approach to policing.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree or higher is preferred. 
  • Minimum 21 years of age. 
  • No Felony convictions and no serious misdemeanor convictions. 
  • Must be a citizen of the United States. 
  • Must meet/pass background requirements. 
  • Must pass a fit for duty physical and drug screen. 
  • POST certification must be "Current and In Good Standing"
